FlowEDG currently supports the following capabilities. New capabilities are being actively developed. If you would like to see a capability added, please contact us at flowedgcfd@gmail.com and we will do our best to implement it if it aligns with our goals.

Current capabilities

  • Solves the compressible Euler and Navier-Stokes equations in 2D and 3D (no turbulence modeling, yet)
  • Arbitrarily high-order accurate in space
  • Unstructured with support for hybrid meshes composed of triangles, quadrangles, tetrahedron, prisms, and hexahedron.
  • Option to use optimized nodal interpolation points for high order meshes
  • Implicit time integration with up to third order accuracy
  • MPI parallelization

Current limitations

  • Memory requirement is quite high, particularly in 3D (60GB per 1 million p=2 tetrahedra)
  • Only interfaces with GMSH mesh format (our mesh generator, MeshOpt, also interfaces with GMSH)
  • While steady 3D solutions are supported, converging them in practical applications is difficult

Up next (in order of priority)

  • RANS turbulence modeling
  • Sub-grid scale and wall modeling for LES
  • p-Multigrid
  • GPU implementation (?)
  • More robust mesh generation with MeshOpt.
