openScale sync app is build as an Open Source app, licensed under the GNU General Public License v3 or later. This SERVICE is provided by olie.xdev at no cost and is intended for use as is.

This page is used to inform visitors regarding policies with the collection, use, and disclosure of Personal Information if anyone decided to use this Service.

If you choose to use this Service, then you agree to the collection and use of information in relation to this policy. The primary purpose of any data handling within the app is to enable its core functionality on your device and to facilitate data synchronization with services you choose to connect, including Android's Health Connect platform.

Information Collection and Use

The openScale sync app primarily stores your data, including any personally identifiable information you enter, directly on your device. I, the developer (olie.xdev), do not collect or have access to this information stored locally on your device, nor do I collect data you choose to share with or read from Health Connect.

The app allows you to connect to various services to synchronize your health data:

  1. Android Health Connect:

    • If you grant permission, openScale sync can read and/or write health data (such as weight with date/time) from/to Android's Health Connect platform on your device.
    • Data stored in Health Connect is managed by Google and subject to its own privacy controls and policies. openScale sync acts as a client to Health Connect, processing data only according to the permissions you grant it.
    • For more information on how Health Connect handles your data, please review the Health Connect by Android Privacy Policy (or search for the specific Health Connect privacy documentation from Google).
  2. Other Third-Party Synchronization Services (User-Configured):

    • When you configure and use other synchronization features, the app will transmit data you authorize to those external services. The specific data transmitted depends on the service and your configuration.
    • Examples include:
      • wger Services: If you choose to connect to wger, data will be sent according to their terms. See wger Terms of Service.
      • MQTT Broker (User-Configured): If you configure the app to sync with an MQTT broker, you are choosing to send your data to that broker. You are responsible for the privacy policy of the MQTT broker you select. An example of an MQTT service provider is CloudMQTT, whose policy can be found here: Cloud MQTT Privacy Policy (This is an example, not an endorsement or a required service).

The app may also utilize the following third-party services, which have their own privacy policies:

  • Google Play Services: May be used for features like app updates or analytics if you have obtained the app through the Google Play Store. Refer to Google Play Services Privacy Policy.

It is your responsibility to review the privacy policies of Android Health Connect and any other third-party service you choose to connect with openScale sync. I have no control over and assume no responsibility for the content, privacy policies, or practices of any third-party services.

Log Data

In the case of an error within the app, the app may locally generate data and information on your phone called Log Data. This Log Data is stored on your device and is not automatically transmitted to me. This Log Data may include information such as your device name, operating system version, the configuration of the app when utilizing the Service, the time and date of your use of the Service, and error stack traces. You may be prompted to share this Log Data with the developer for troubleshooting purposes, but this is entirely optional.

Security

I value your trust in providing your Personal Information to the app for local storage and for transmission to services of your choice, including Health Connect. The app is developed with security in mind, but remember that no method of transmission over the internet, or method of electronic storage is 100% secure and reliable, and its absolute security cannot be guaranteed. As an open-source project, the code is available for public scrutiny, which can contribute to identifying and addressing security vulnerabilities. You are also responsible for securing the third-party services you connect to and managing permissions within Health Connect.

Open Source Nature

Being an open-source application under the GPL, the source code for openScale sync is publicly available. This allows for transparency in how your data is handled within the application itself.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

I may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Thus, you are advised to review this page periodically for any changes. I will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and potentially through the app's release notes or project repository.

This policy is effective as of 27th June 2025
