Hi, I'm Hamdi Kucukengin — a data scientist and research staff member at Northwestern University. I have over 5 years of research experience, including work in computational biology, bioinformatics, and quantitative image analysis.
In my current role, I apply statistical and machine learning techniques to:
- RNA-seq data
- Confocal imaging
- Gene expression studies
I recently finished my Masters degree in Data Science, with a focus on Artificial Intelligence. My recent work explores:
- AutoML Computer Vision API: AutoML Computer Vision API
- Geospatial AI: CNN-based urban land use classifier
- Natural Language Processing: Transformer-based stance detection model for policy texts
Main tools:
Python · Golang · PyTorch · Keras · TensorFlow
Pandas · scikit-learn · MLflow · GCP · FastAPI
I’m especially interested in mission-driven roles in:
- Healthcare
- Scientific research
- Non-profits
- Think tanks
Where I can apply data science and ML to impactful, real-world challenges.
I’m currently exploring roles as a:
- Data Scientist
- Machine Learning Engineer
- Bioinformatician
If your organization is solving important problems with data, I’d love to connect!
When I’m not coding, I’m probably:
- Playing video games 🎮
- Bouldering (V4, but working on it!) 🧗♂️
- Learning how to use Unreal Engine to build my own game
