Summary of Changes

Hello @dougsland, I'm Gemini Code Assist1! I'm currently reviewing this pull request and will post my feedback shortly. In the meantime, here's a summary to help you and other reviewers quickly get up to speed!

This pull request focuses on enhancing the exec_cmd utility function by replacing the eval command with a subshell execution, which significantly improves the security and reliability of command execution. Additionally, it introduces clearer logging for command operations and refines the associated success and error messages.

Highlights

  • Security and Robustness: The exec_cmd function has been refactored to replace the potentially unsafe eval command with a more secure and controlled subshell execution using bash -o pipefail -c.
  • Improved Logging: A new 'RUN' log message is now displayed before executing any command, providing better visibility into the command's execution flow.
  • Enhanced Messaging: Error and success messages for command execution have been updated for improved clarity and conciseness.

Code Review

This pull request improves the exec_cmd utility function by replacing the potentially unsafe eval command with a safer bash -c execution in a subshell. This is a great change for security and robustness. The addition of the -o pipefail option is also a good practice. My review includes a minor suggestion to enhance the logging for successful commands to improve traceability.

I do not understand the change, is it the eval as security concerns?
Why not using the if_err_exit?
