The new UltiMaker S6 is here

Print with the new UltiMaker S6 in Cura from day 1. The UltiMaker S6 is the newest addition to the S series of UltiMaker printers that carries forward the award-winning legacy of the S5, now supercharged with innovations like the UltiMaker Cheetah for up to 4x productivity. Learn more about this printer here.

Multi-material painting

You can now make a multi-color or multi-material print, just by painting on your model! Select the proper extruder and drag the cursor over the model. You can also set how deep the painted features will go into the model, for a faster print or a stronger interlocking of materials, with the settings "Multi-material Deepness" and "Multi-material Precision" Visit our Thingiverse page to download this painting easel try it for yourself

Support added for the new UltiMaker S8

The UltiMaker S8 is supported in Cura. The S8 is one of the newest professional desktop printers in the S series, and it achieves up to 4x the speed of its predecessor while also improving print quality. That is possible thanks to the new UltiMaker Cheetah motion planner and new high flow cores, all of which will be usable at launch with Cura! Learn more about this printer here.

Seam customization with painting

You can also use the painting feature to select areas of the model where you want the seam to be preferably placed, or avoided. This way, you can easily ensure that your model prints as nice as possible.

Support for the 3D SpaceMouse by 3Dconnexion

Support for the SpaceMouse has been added in this release. Commonly used in CAD and 3D design software, a 3D mouse makes working with 3D models more precise and efficient. The SpaceMouse, along with the CadMouse, are a perfect fit for Cura and should help make your 3D printing workflows more efficient, especially when switching between Cura and CAD or design software. A big thanks to 3Dconnexions for helping to make this integration possible!

Quality improvements for S6/S8

We expanded the available print cores on the UltiMaker S6 and S8, so you can now also slice for AA 0.25, AA 0.4, AA 0.8, CC 0.4 and CC 0.6. New draft intent profiles for PLA, Tough PLA, ABS, and PETG have been added and significantly improved printed part quality for PLA, Tough PLA, ABS, and PETG.

Upcoming changes for USB-connected printing

In Cura 5.11, USB printing will no longer be enabled by default. New users will need to enable USB printing manually if they wish to use it. Anyone who printed using USB in Cura 5.10 can continue printing as normal. We have added a hidden settings ‘Enable/Disable USB Printing’ to help make this change flawless. Note that this refers to having your PC and printer directly linked via a USB cable, not printing with a USB hard drive.

Do not use USB-connection by default

In the last few years, we had many reports that Cura was messing up with USB devices, or getting very slow because it tries to find a USB-connected printer. In version 5.10, we added a hidden preference to log the actual use of a USB printer, and starting with 5.11, this feature will be disabled by default, unless you used it with 5.10.
