Changing vuetify variables do not work

When I change variables in assets/style/variables.styl some variables can be changed e.g. $body-font-family like in the example below. Others will not be changed e.g. $heading-font-family or $headings

@require '~vuetify/src/stylus/settings/_variables.styl'

$body-font-family = 'Open Sans', sans-serif
$sheet-border-radius = 7px
$heading-font-family = $body-font-family
$headings = {
  h3: { size: 65px, weight: 400, line-height: 48px, letter-spacing: normal, font-family: $heading-font-family }
}

Any ideas?

For me worked adding the variables before the file.

$body-font-family = 'Nunito'
@require '~vuetify/src/stylus/settings/_variables.styl'
