hangs on startup with gtk mixup messages

Downloaded the most recent AppImage release (0.5.9), no GTK_ vars in my env, using gnome DE. Running from the console, the process zombifies (won't react to Ctrl+C) with:
Gtk-ERROR **: 09:32:21.962: GTK 2/3 symbols detected. Using GTK 2/3 and GTK 4 in the same process is not supported
I have to pkill it.

I can start it with
env -i HOME=$HOME PATH=$PATH DISPLAY=$DISPLAY XAUTHORITY=$XAUTHORITY ./seedit-0.5.9_483d30f272706d29dba10678a6a26e6c.AppImage, however.

I am running quite a few electron apps without problems.
