Building for Android produces no output

I understand the Android build is not implemented on Windows. But even when I try to build with --platform=android on OS X (specifying the NDK path), it produces no output at all, with no error messages.

I manually ran the jxcore android-configure.sh and android_compile.sh scripts. The compile script fails with this error:

Here's a little more context from ./configure line 565:

  proc = subprocess.Popen(shlex.split(CC) + ['-dumpversion'],
                          stdout=subprocess.PIPE)
  version = tuple(map(int, proc.communicate()[0].split('.')))

But I still don't know why that code is failing, because cc -dumpversion on my system outputs just 4.2.1. There's no 'x' character.

I got past the error above by hardcoding the clang version:

version = (4, 2, 1)

Then I hit this:

gyp: /Users/Jason/Projects/OpenT2T/node-apphost/jxcore/deps/leveldown-mobile/leveldown_embedded.gyp not found (cwd: /Users/Jason/Projects/OpenT2T/node-apphost/jxcore) while loading dependencies of /Users/Jason/Projects/OpenT2T/node-apphost/jxcore/jx.gyp while trying to load /Users/Jason/Projects/OpenT2T/node-apphost/jxcore/jx.gyp

My leveldown-mobile directory was empty. The submodule didn't get cloned because tools/taskman.js didn't use the --recursive flag when cloning.

After I fixed that, the jxcore android build completed successfully.
