On Safari: Empty span in text causes layout shifts

Hel<span></span>lo world

causes subtle layout shifts:

empt-span-font-rendering.mov

I guess kerning and ligatures are affected somehow.

@johannesmutter any idea how we can render an empty span (as an anchor for popup positioning) but without affecting the rendering/layout?

Found some hints that spans may need to "neutralized":

span {
  display: inline;
  font-size: inherit;
  line-height: inherit;
  letter-spacing: inherit;
}

Need to investigate.

NOTE: This is only reproducible in 0.6.0, 0.6.1 has a patch for it (it doesn't render the span for collapsed cursors)
