What Happened?

Blurry mouse cursor in HiDPI mode, under Wayland (for almost all Flatpak apps, not just Videos) see attached screens...

Steps to Reproduce

Open any flatpak app.

Expected Behavior

Fix mouse scale in Flatpak apps (Wayland)
Like Fedora display correct mouse cursor all Flatpak apps.

I think this should be fixed in newer Mutter when we have cursor shape protocol, but I'm unsure if there's anything we can do about it for OS 8.x

Hi!

I’m not a developer; I just ran all the elementary (stock) Flatpak apps from the command line, and the cursor is not blurry in every application.
Here are the results:

io.elementary.screenshot – Good
org.gnome.Evince – Good
io.elementary.calculator – Blurry
io.elementary.camera – Blurry
io.elementary.videos – Blurry
io.elementary.maps – Blurry
org.gnome.Epiphany – Blurry
org.gnome.FileRoller – Blurry

In the Screenshot and Evince applications the cursor is perfectly sharp.
In all the others it’s blurry, and the terminal prints the following error message for each one:

“MESA-INTEL: warning: ../src/intel/vulkan/anv_formats.c:949: FINISHME: support YUV colorspace with DRM format modifiers”

In an older build — I think back in the initial elementary OS 8.0 release — this cursor issue didn’t exist. (I can’t verify it anymore since that build is no longer available.)
I’ll check the current stable 8.0.2 by installing it to see how it behaves there.

I’m just sharing this informally; I believe it may be a Mutter issue, it just seems odd to me.

It sounds like there is an issue with the newer GNOME runtime that affects LTS builds of Mutter like ours. The only solution, afaik, is backporting some code from Mutter 47.3. I don't know how feasible that is or if someone at Ubuntu is already working on it or not

Hi!

Indeed, I installed Ubuntu 22.04, updated it, and it’s the same Mutter version (of course). I installed Flatpak and the same applications produce the same blurry cursor under Wayland 😐️
It’s just interesting why Screenshot and Evince don’t, but that’s already programmer territory, I’m completely clueless about that 😃️
