One idea: it would be nice if the Python Gui allowed a constant offset to be applied to one of the two sets of Gerbers. (I normally do that by hand right clicking on GerbV on the layer, and then on modify orientation). This happens often when importing Altium projects into KiCad, the offset gets lost and one has to readjust it later when doing Geber comparison.

That's a good idea! I can see how that would help. Unfortunately I cannot find a command line argument of Gerbv to do that. 🙁

There are other things about Gerbv that are far from perfect.

• It doesn't support oblong holes (routed holes).
  EDIT: There seems to be a patch for this which is implemented in this fork: https://github.com/kitanokitsune/gerbv_for_win
• There's no command line argument to specify drawing mode (normal, fast, xor)
• KiCad v5.99 gerbers get inverted pads plotted on silk screen in normal rendering mode.

Unfortunately I'm not prepared to make any changes to Gerbv myself. I just don't have the time or knowledge.

If there's a better alternative than Gerbv I could alter the script to use that instead, but I haven't yet found one with a good command line interface.

What you're asking for could probably be done by iterating over the gerber file and changing the coordinates with the offset, but I'm not prepared to go down that road either.

@dennevi It would be great if you could help porting this patch, maybe providing an example :-) I currently use routed holes as GM2 layer and have not yet had problems with the display. However there might be differences in the Gerber data generated by different CAD software

I'll give it a try! I have another small project atm that I'd like to finish, but I'll look into this in a week or two.
