Questions about the link between vertices to the resulting path

Hi, I have a question about restoring the link between vertice and the path.
I had converted a set of points to polyline, but how can I find the original vertices based on a polyline or a line segment? In another word, I would like to keep the vertex attributes along with the polyline.
Can you provide me a clue? Thanks a lot!
