Preview thumbnails #3
Description
Show a preview thumbnail (if available) while seeking.
How this thumbnail should be shown is not yet decided. Some possibilities:
- As a tooltip, following the scrubber of the seekbar. This is what we do for the Web UI, but it might be less suitable for smaller screens or when it is partially obscured by the user's finger.
- As a carousel, in a "film strip" above the seekbar. This also shows a preview of the parts around the seek time, which can help users to more easily find a specific moment in the video. However, it might take up a lot of space.
- As a fullscreen preview, temporarily replacing the video display itself. This could make the player "feel" faster, since we can immediately show an (approximate) frame when seeking. However, if the preview thumbnails have a very low resolution, they might look bad on larger screens.
Or we could implement multiple possibilities and allow the user to pick one they like. 😁
