LAN play with port forwarding / public IP not working #63

Hello!

I know this feature was addressed as being untested, however I can confirm it doesn't work for me. Everything on router and firewall is setup properly, - but the game just crashes as soon as you try to launch a server (whether you choose LAN or Internet). The menu mouse still moves, so I'm guessing it is not making it past the CD key verification stage and just gives up. If you don't use openRVS you can play on LAN, but as soon as someone joins via public IP, they will be booted with CD key verification error whether they have the patch or not. Relevant: If you create a server without the patch, there will be a small time of waiting after you click 'Create' and I think that wait is the CD key verification code kicking in, but it does work and players can join via LAN only. It seems to be that part that may be broken with the patch enabled, as it seems to just give up during that process rather than moving on hence you cannot create a server. Of course I am speaking of the original game server creation tools, outside of the modded internet server list.

I appreciate this part of the game's function is not a focus of the patch, but could there be a solution to this in the pipeline? Or is there something I can do on my end?

Many thanks

TLDR

  • Joining by public IP appears to be broken, you can't create a server
  • Netcode for skip CD key verification maybe broken for the original game's server tools
  • Is there a fix or anything I can do on my end?
