When sharing spell, spell ability can be shown with wrong ability

I created a spell book on a token with several Warlock, Sorcerer and Cleric spells. (Divine Soul Sorcerer/Celestial Warlock multiclass.)

Clicked the '+' symbol to display the spell details of the spell 'Hex'.

Clicked the 'Share' link. Link displays properly in Chat.

Click the Chat link, spell pops up as expected but the Spell Ability is 'Wisdom' instead of either my character's casting ability or the default Warlock ability of 'Charisma'.

Comparing with a few other low-level spells:

• Shield displays 'Intelligence', defaulting to Wizard spell list? Which seems correct, unless I'm a Sorcerer as it appears on the Sorcerer list, too.
• Lesser Restoration and Guiding Bolt both display "Wisdom" which seems correct for Cleric default spell list, or Druid default list (for LR).
• Misty Step displays "Wisdom" which seems wrong as it doesn't appear on the Cleric nor the Druid spell list.

I'm not sure what the correct behavior should be here. Should it display as if from the Spell List of a particular class, or should it appear as the spell ability of the character sharing it?

Currently, the default stats for a spell is simply the highest spellcasting stat (either Intelligence, Wisdom or Charisma).

I'm not sure what should be the proper logic. What would you recommend?

In the character's Spellbook, yeah, I agree that the highest spellcasting stat is a good default. Then let the player change specific spells for specific conditions that their character operates under. (As you have it now, essentially.)

In the Share frame, I'm not sure that's entirely what is happening though.

For example, I have an Eldritch Knight / Cleric that can cast Light and Shield. While her Wisdom is higher than her Intelligence, she still casts Shield using Intelligence and casts Light using Wisdom. I have to custom configure Shield (which is great!).

But sharing either Light or Shield shows Charisma as her casting stat. (I just noticed this.) She has a 9 Charisma. :)

I think this is because I have had two Spellbooks open on two different characters, and the other character casts using Charisma (which is much higher than either the Wisdom or the Intelligence of the EK/Cleric.) Somehow, it is using the other character's stats for the Share frame instead of the EK/Cleric's stats.

Just tested by restarting Maptool.

1. If I open the EK/Cleric Spellbook first, then share, I get Wisdom for the Spell Ability in the Share frame for Wisdom spells, and Intelligence in the Share frame for Intelligence spells.
2. If I then close that Share frame and open the other character's Spellbook (I now have two Spellbooks open), then I share from the EK/Cleric again, I get Charisma in the Share frame for either Wisdom or Intelligence spells.
3. If I close this second character's Spellbook and try again from the EK/Cleric's Spellbook, I still get Charisma in both Share frames instead of Wisdom or Intelligence. (This is what confused me originally.)
4. If I close and re-open the EK/Cleric's Spellbook, I get back to proper shares, ie: Wisdom spells show Wisdom in the Share frame and Intelligence spells show Intelligence in the Share frame.

NB: these characters have overlapping spells in their Spellbooks, but this is also happening to the EK/Cleric even when I share a spell that the Charisma caster doesn't have on her list.

So it's using the highest spellcasting stat from any Spellbook opened, not the source Spellbook of the Share link (unless it happens to be the highest). But it still distinguishes which casting ability is used in the Spellbook of the Share link properly if it's not overridden by another Spellbook. I hope that's clear. :)

EDIT: I just reversed the order, opening the Charisma caster first. It's using the latest opened Spellbook, regardless of which casting ability is higher. In this example, the EK/Cleric's stats are used. :)

As for the proper logic, two perspectives:

1. Perhaps Spell Ability shouldn't be displayed at all when you share it? The share is a reference for other players edification; you wouldn't want to mislead anyone unintentionally that they have learned something useful about the caster (either the PC or any NPC that might be under discussion.) Note that if you share a spell from the Spell Library from, say, the Global macro panel, you don't get Spell Ability, you get a Spell DC option instead. (I presume this is so you don't have to configure a Spellbook at all, just cast spells right from the Library, and decide Spellcasting Ability in some other way.)

2. It should be whatever is in the PC's Spellbook for that spell, as they are sharing it. Users can change spells in the PCs Spellbook to use any casting stat. Once it's set (common default or not), that setting should be used in the share.

I personally prefer the second option. You seem to have it mostly there already, it's just this multiple Spellbook thing that's messing it up.
