The main page slow down my browser

When opening the https://www.onyxia.sh/ web page, my browser slow down to the death.

Please, double check the exposed resources and beautiful effects.

I'm using Firefox on Windows Laptop.

The symptom is the same, even without Youtube. I'm not confortable with Front End development, but I noticed something around a OpenGL. Perhaps something around 3D effects?

I can't reproduce anything obvious with browserstack.

Could you try with private navigation so we can rule out that one of your extention is interfering?

Also would you record a screen capture and show me the performance issue you are experiencing.

I'm really surprised you not reproduce the behavior.
With Firefox or Chrome, opening the site reclaim 40% of my CPU.
With Firefox, sliding the window is not smooth. It's better with Chrome.

But 40% of CPU for a landing page seems not acceptable, for me.

Yes, I can confirm that when checking the Activity Monitor, the CPU usage does increase significantly when the page is open.

However, after further investigation, we concluded that nothing in our implementation is particularly incorrect. The slowdown comes from rendering multiple videos with alpha channels (transparent backgrounds).

The videos themselves are correctly formatted, highly compressed (each under 10 MB), and rendered using the native <video /> element.

I wasn’t aware that videos with transparent backgrounds are so resource-intensive to render. It’s definitely something I’ll keep in mind for future projects. They look very cool though...

I'll remove the transparency and reduce the resolution significantly so it's not as resource intensive to render.
