Feature Description

We propose to integrate the Petals framework as our third LLM service support in MultiverseNote. Petals enables the use of large language models like BLOOM, Llama 2, and Falcon in a decentralized, BitTorrent-style system which could significantly enhance our project’s capabilities in handling large-scale AI computations efficiently.

Rationale

Petals offers a unique approach by allowing users to run parts of large models on their own machines, contributing to a network that supports complex AI tasks without centralized server constraints. This integration would not only expand our AI service offerings but also align with our goal to leverage cutting-edge, accessible AI technologies.

Potential Benefits

  • Scalability: By distributing computation across many users, Petals can help us scale AI services without significant infrastructure.
  • Efficiency: Petals reports fine-tuning and inference speeds up to 10x faster than traditional offloading methods.
  • Innovative Use Cases: The flexibility of Petals supports fine-tuning and employing custom inference paths, which can be pivotal for specialized project management tasks in MultiverseNote.

Implementation Considerations

  • Evaluate the network and hardware requirements for integrating Petals with our existing systems.
  • Assess security and data privacy implications, especially since Petals operates on a public swarm system.
  • Determine the necessary changes to the UI/UX to accommodate new functionalities offered by Petals.

We believe adding Petals as a supported LLM service could significantly propel our project's capabilities and offer our users a robust, flexible toolset for managing AI-driven projects.
